Exterior

The Charger’s powerful V-8 and boisterous sounds are a nod to its NASCAR heritage. It’s unfortunate that not every Charger has a powerful Hemi V-8 engine under the hood, but they all have a great eight-speed automatic transmission and come standard with rear-wheel drive. The V-6, in contrast, is quieter but does offer all-wheel drive as an option.

It would be so much cooler if Dodge built a Charger with a manual transmission, but they don’t. Despite not being a weakling, the basic V-6 lacks the giddy-up of front-drive vehicles like the Nissan Maxima. The more potent variations perform better on the strip, where the 485-hp Charger R/T Scat Pack recorded a remarkable 3.8-second sprint to 60 mph.

The 370-hp Charger has more power than most family sedans, making it faster. The flashy (Green Go) Charger had a calm and collected ride as we drove it about town. In most conditions, its enormous 20-inch wheels were at ease, but obstructions like railroad crossings and potholes made it difficult to maintain composure.

The large-bodied sedan handled corners with exceptional balance as well. The V-6 version we drove had about comparable cornering grip, but the Daytona’s substantial horsepower advantage made it more enjoyable. Although the Charger’s power steering is electrically assisted, the input is too slow and heavy to be interesting.

Interior

The interior of the Charger is extremely practical but far from luxury, with more rubberized materials than the set of an adult movie. Its passenger space is slightly below average, with the exception of outstanding rear-seat legroom. Numerous little storage compartments and a hole next to the shifter in the centre console are ideal for holding your smartphone.

Although there are many options, the cabin’s straightforward appearance is typical of muscle cars.
