Exterior
The typical turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine is neither refined nor speedy. The engine’s redeeming feature is the useful torque it produces low in the rpm range, which assists the Renegade in accelerating away from stops. It is available with either front- or all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
While all-wheel-drive variants can tow up to 2000 pounds, front-drive models are not recommended for towing. The inside of the Renegade, like the outside, is designed to appeal to the portion of our minds that used to imagine full-length discussions between two dinosaur-shaped erasers. It’s full of weird shapes, toy-like trimmings, and minor design surprises, like maps embossed in cupholders and the slogan “Since 1941” stamped on dash plastic. Consider us entertained.
