The 230i has a 255-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, while the M240i has a 382-horsepower turbo 3.0-litre inline-six. Both the 230i and M240i are available with rear- or all-wheel drive. The only transmission option is an eight-speed automatic. The 230i hit 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and a quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 101 mph during our testing.
The M Sport and Dynamic Handling options, which include 19-inch wheels on performance tyres, a stiffer suspension, enhanced brakes, a variable-ratio steering system, and an electronically controlled rear differential, are recommended for those searching for maximum performance out of the 230i. Interior
Although BMW’s interior design language isn’t revolutionary, it’s complemented by the great build quality and comfortable ergonomics. The new 2-series interior features the company’s signature style and layout. While analogue gauges are standard, a fully digital instrument panel with a 12.3-inch display and a head-up display are optional.
We just wish the front seats were a little more supportive. In addition, despite an increase in total length and width, as well as a 2.0-inch-longer wheelbase, the coupe’s back seat has less headroom and legroom than the model it replaces.
