Exterior
Despite redesigning everything else about the new Civic, Honda decided to keep the previous-generation car’s powerplant options. The base engine is a 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the enhanced engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that now produces 180 horsepower. The new Civic is only available in front-wheel drive. Unfortunately, the manual transmission featured on the previous generation Civic sedan has been discontinued for 2022, leaving only a CVT as an option. However, a six-speed manual transmission is still available on the hatchback type.
Our turbocharged Touring sedan took 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph on our test track, which is somewhat slower than the previous generation Civic. The manual Sport Touring hatchback we tried did marginally better, reaching 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. Fortunately, the nimble handling, communicative steering, and well-balanced ride we loved in the previous generation model are all present and accounted for now. Interior
The cabin is visually appealing. All controls are easily accessible and simple to use. It’s also spacious – the front seats can comfortably seat taller and shorter individuals, while the rear seats can comfortably seat average-size adults. There is plenty of rear legroom and headroom.
Narrow front roof pillars and side view mirrors located on the doors improve outward visibility, freeing up your view in front. The back glass is a little short, but the multi-angle rearview camera helps you see what’s behind you as you reverse out of a parking spot.
