Exterior
Kia provides two four-cylinder engines in the Seltos: a 2.0-liter with 147 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.6-liter with 195 horsepower. We tested the Seltos with the turbocharged 1.6-liter when it only produced 175 horsepower and found it to be more than adequate. The standard engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), whilst the turbo engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic.
Except for the S model, all-wheel drive is standard. The Seltos has a stiff but mainly smooth ride and quick handling for an SUV—significantly it’s more fun and composed than competitors like the Jeep Compass and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.
Interior
Inside, the Seltos has a significantly greater capacity for passengers and goods than the Hyundai Kona. The inside materials are polished enough to look right at home in the showroom next to the brand’s superb Telluride SUV. Interior ambient lighting is standard on the pricier SX model and can be programmed to pulse in time with the music, similar to the system available in Kia’s smaller Soul SUV.
The cargo room comfortably absorbed our luggage, backpacks, and picture bag during our pre-facelift test drive; in our testing, we accommodated eight carry-on suitcases in the cargo hold and 20 with the rear seats folding. We anticipate that the load-carrying capacity of the Seltos will remain unchanged for the 2024 model year.
