The Q4 is going to do very well, thanks to its high-quality interior, good (said) range, superb technology, and competitive pricing. Audi predicts that the Q4 will overtake the A3 hatchback as the company’s second best-selling model by 2022, with the Sportback accounting for roughly 16% of Q4 sales.
We were prepared to scold it for having an insufficient boot and about as much rear-headroom as a two-man tent. Because it’s a coupe-ified SUV, and that’s how they’re supposed to be.
The Sportback’s boot isn’t as practical as the Q4 SUV’s, but it’s barely smaller in terms of overall space. Adults can also sit in the rear, since there is plenty of legroom and enough headroom for a six-footer to sit up straight. That’s some ingenious packaging. Audi deserves praise.
We’d still go with the SUV because it’s more practical, less expensive to buy, and drives just like the Sportback. As we mentioned in our assessment of the Q4 SUV, it’s pretty decent in a comfortable and reassuring, albeit uninspiring, sense. Regardless of which bodystyle you choose, the Audi Q4 is a good car.
