The Ford Maverick 2022 outperforms the competition. Thanks to value-packed pricing, imaginative packaging, fantastic usability, and a fuel-efficient motor, it serves as an antidote to larger, more unneeded pickup trucks. However, some features aren’t available as stand-alone options, certain parts may frustrate children, and decisions about fuel efficiency and all-wheel-drive must be made. The Maverick is about a foot shorter and has a five-inch shorter wheelbase than the Ranger, but it has more interior space. The smaller pickup boasts 1.5 inches more back legroom, the same amount of hip and shoulder room, and nearly four inches greater total passenger volume. This is due to the fact that the platform is newer and the packaging is unique.
Despite its diminutive size, the inside feels larger than it is because of innovative design elements like the scalloped door panels. The back seat bottom opens up to reveal secret under-seat storage, just like the larger F-150, and the lofty roofline provides plenty of headroom. In the back of a Maverick cab, an adult will be more comfortable than in a four-door Ranger.

The Ford Ranger is coming back to the United States in 2019, but it’s nothing like my friend’s father’s truck. The Maverick is who he is. It’s one of the few pickup trucks that fit in my standard-length garage with room to spare, at 199.7 inches long. With a 54.4-inch bed, it was able to carry my downhill skis and boots despite its little size (diagonally). Unlike a Ranger, F-150, or even the Hyundai Santa Cruz, reaching over the low bed rails is a breeze.
Children enjoy being self-sufficient and despise being aided. When it came time to buckle on, though, the Maverick proved to be frustrating for my 6- and 8-year-olds.
