Exterior
The Terrain comes standard with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a nine-speed automated transmission, and either front- or all-wheel drive. We haven’t tried one yet, but we did put that engine through its paces in its mechanical twin, the Chevrolet Equinox; it took 8.9 seconds to reach 60 mph. The Terrain offers its passengers a nice and cozy ride.



Although the softly sprung chassis is beneficial on lengthy highway rides, the comfort-oriented configuration deprives the compact crossover of driver involvement when the road becomes tricky. Similarly, the straight but syrupy steering, which allows for simple turn-in at low speeds, is as uninformative as a mob leader interrogated in a police interrogation room.

Interior
A roomy and comfortable interior is let down by poor build quality and a mediocre material mix. Although we believe owners will grow accustomed to it with time, we found the small buttons difficult to detect at a glance, especially when searching for reverse, making it tough to perform three-point turns fast or use the transmission’s manual mode. The Terrain is an accommodating partner for transporting a huge cargo of varying sizes. Consider the standard 60/40 split-folding rear seat and the optional fold-flat front seat.
