Exterior
The Hyundai Nexo’s 95-kW fuel-cell stack and 40-kWh battery pack power a 161-horsepower, 291-pound-feet-of-torque electric motor. The engine powers the front wheels via a single-speed transmission; all-wheel drive is not available. In our tests, the Nexo achieved a zero-to-60-mph time of 8.4 seconds, which was faster than the Mirai.
This result also puts the hydrogen-powered Hyundai on par with conventional, gasoline-powered compact SUVs. The Nexo, like its fuel-cell siblings, isn’t very exciting to drive. Nonetheless, its electrically assisted steering is appropriately tuned—light but solid. In addition, the Nexo stopped from 70 mph in 169 feet, which is far better than the Mirai.
Interior
The five-passenger 2023 Hyundai Nexo has a comparable inside size to other small crossovers. Adults can sit comfortably in the front or back seats. The cargo capacity behind the back seat is a handy 30 cubic feet, and folding the rear seats flat nets 57 cubic feet, which is comparable to the Hyundai Tucson.
The interiors of the remainder of the Hyundai lineup have grown to be more like the Nexo’s, with the large digital instruments and infotainment screens and push-button gearbox controls.
