Exterior
In the Soul, Kia offers two engines. The base engine is a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). A Soul X-Line took a whole 8.0 seconds to reach 60 mph on our test track, but it doesn’t feel underpowered in everyday driving.
In reality, the base engine seems lively in town, and the CVT eagerly selects lower gear ratios when passing someone. The Turbo variant has a 201-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed automated transmission. In our hands, it clocked a 6.4-second 60-mph time.

Interior
The upright body of the Soul creates a large cabin with plenty of room for persons and baggage. Kia’s designers have added enough youthful cheekiness to the Soul’s interior to match its fashion-forward looks, such as textured door-panel inserts and colorful trim. Ambient lighting, a mobile recharging pad, a head-up screen, push-button ignition with keyless entry, and heated seats and steering wheel are among the extras available.
Kia also allows customers to customize their vehicles, with two-tone paint options and a myriad of interior color combinations. The tall-roofed truck has ample cargo room for seven carry-on baggage; with the back seats folded—it must be noted that they do not fold totally flat—we could fit 20 cases.
