Exterior
In contrast to many B-segment rivals, which have expanded dramatically in recent generations, the all-new Yaris is somewhat shorter than the outgoing model and has a lower overall height. It will be the smallest car in its class, yet cabin room and comfort have been greatly enhanced by extending the width, wheelbase, and wheel track.
The new GA-B platform provided our designers with more leeway in creating an eye-catching look that emphasized the new Yaris’ unique individuality. Its wider stance, shorter overhangs, and strong character lines accentuate the visual impression of the compacted proportions, presenting a sensation of forward speed. Bulging front and rear wings contribute to the sensation of tense muscles, emphasizing the car’s quickness and ready-to-go personality.

The massive grille and center Toyota symbol dominate the front elevation. The new headlights use LED technology (grade dependent) and have indications that alternate with the daytime running lights. The light modules also extend towards the front wheels, reducing the perceived length of the front overhang. The bonnet, on the other hand, appears longer than before, and the A-pillars have been shifted rearward to increase the driver’s forward visibility. The wheels are available in 16- and 17-inch sizes, with the former giving a 5.2m turning radius.
Interior
The interior of the all-new Yaris is filled with high-quality, sensory-rich materials that you’d expect to find in cars of a higher class. It also adheres to the less is more principle, which is intended to assist the driver in keeping their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
“We worked on two primary factors to achieve this,” Suezawa added. “First, we increased visibility by lowering the instrument panel and moving the A-pillar further back. The front seats have also been shifted outwards to provide additional space between the driver and passenger. Second, we wanted the driver to be able to take in information with minimal eye movement, so we provided a huge colour head-up display.”

The driver’s sensation of control and connection to the vehicle is heightened by their posture behind the wheel. The front seats have been moved back 60mm, and the hip point has been lowered by 21mm, contributing to the car’s enhanced weight balance and more engaging driving posture. The multi-function steering wheel is also smaller in diameter and has a larger range of reach adjustment.
A ‘binocular’ metre layout within the instrument binnacle flanks a TFT multi-information display on Design grade vehicles and above, reducing driver attention. An eight-inch centre touchscreen is conveniently located, and a ten-inch colour head-up display (standard on the Launch Edition model) guarantees that important information ‘floats’ within the driver’s field of vision.
